Maintaining our school facilities is vital for the safety of our children and the preservation of our community’s property values.  School finance in Texas is complex.  Whether we like it or not, a regular bond package every 3 to 5 years is necessary for a district to remain healthy. 

We are years overdue for our next bond package, and we’re all seeing the results: failing air conditioning units and the closure of our natatorium.  If we continue to do nothing, it will only get worse.  One of my kids’ classrooms was so hot that we couldn’t go into it at Meet the Teacher night. This wasn’t a new problem: his teacher had developed high blood pressure and an irregular EKG due to the excessive heat.

Our community needs responsible, forward-looking solutions to repair and modernize our campuses.  To address our infrastructure needs, I will focus on:

• Addressing Urgent Needs: Prioritizing critical repairs that directly impact the daily learning environment, ensuring that schools are safe, functional, and comfortable for everyone.

• Smart Financial Planning: Supporting the 2026 bond package formulated by our neighbors on the Citizens Bond Advisory Committee.  It addresses our backlog of projects while keeping our tax rate steady, balancing costs for taxpayers.

• Protecting Investments: Treating preventative maintenance as a priority to avoid more costly emergency repairs down the road.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

As we plan and execute facility improvements, everything we build or repair must be focused on students and their success.  Working with other trustees, I will maintain strict oversight of these funds, ensuring that every dollar spent is an investment in Keller ISD’s future.
